Spain achieves the «best May» in its history as an export of wine

Spain exported wine worth 285.4 million euros during the month of May, which is the highest turnover achieved for that month since records are available, as reported this Friday the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OEMV).

Foreign wine sales in May rose 15.7% per month in value and 6% year-on-year, while in volume, with 192.1 million litres, there was a slight fall, which represents a «revaluation» of these products, according to a report by the OEMV.

In the first five months of 2022 Spain exported 831 million liters (-11%), worth 1,160.6 million euros (+3.4%).

By products, only sparkling wine (+11% in value and +7.6% in volume) and wine with indication of variety in bulk (+22% in value and +1% in volume), increased their exports in euros and liters.

In value, there were also increases in semi-sparkling wines (+19%), wines with Denomination of Origin (PDO) packaged (+0.7%), wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) packaged (+3.4%) and varietal wines packaged (+1.6%).

The average prices registered a generalized revaluation, according to the OEMV study, which highlights the growth of the average price of wines with PDO (+20%), which already reaches 4.71 euros/liter.
