Much higher prices reduce Chinese wine imports in 2022, where only bulk grows

China, according to a report by the Spanish Wine Market Observatory, reduced its wine imports by 13.3% in volume and 10.4% in value in the first half of 2022, the worst in recent years with 183.7 million liters and 4,745.8 million yuan (about EUR 690 million).

Chile (+26.2%) broke with the global fall in volume and distanced itself from France (-21.2%) as the leading supplier. He was the only one to grow alongside Georgia and Germany in the top 12. However, France’s first place in value is very clear. Spain fell by about 30%. Argentina’s collapse (bulk), after two very good years. Australia continues with its particular crisis in China, after the tariffs imposed by this country at the end of 2020.

On the other hand, Spain repeats as third supplier in volume and fourth in value, despite falling about 30%, to 20.7 million liters and 330.7 million yuan. Italy fell by about 13% and is again the fourth largest supplier by volume, with 14.7 million litres, and the third in value, with 473.6 million yuan, at an average price that doubled that of Spanish wine.
